When you can buy a snack box at a $1 store
Posted October 08, 2018 10:31:21 American snacks and snack boxes are now available for purchase at stores that carry American groceries, and there’s some evidence that they might even be making some dent in the country’s obesity problem.
The latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that snack boxes sold in supermarkets are making a dent in obesity rates in the U.S. as well.
According to the latest CDC data, Americans are eating less than half of what they used to eat, and the number of obese adults has increased by over 10% since the last census in 2014.
“While the number is higher than the past decade, we still have a lot of work to do to address this issue,” said Dr. Joseph T. Thompson, director of CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics.
“As more people are participating in healthier eating behaviors, they’re also making healthier choices for themselves.”
While the new data is encouraging, the CDC isn’t expecting to see a dramatic impact on overall obesity rates.
While the obesity rate in the United States has decreased by over 15% over the past 10 years, the rate for obese adults is increasing.
While the CDC expects the obesity rates to decline in the near future, it’s still important to note that the rate of obesity for children is actually rising.
The CDC recently released data showing that the proportion of children in the population between the ages of 6 and 17 has increased nearly fourfold since 2009.
“We still see some kids who are overweight or obese in the early teens,” Thompson said.
“It’s important to remember that this increase is largely driven by a new generation of kids, who are getting older and beginning to become more active.”
In fact, the percentage of children who are obese increased from 15% in 2014 to 22% in 2018.
But even with the new rate of growth, obesity rates are still higher than they were in 2014, which is when the new survey was conducted.
The average weight for children aged 2 to 17 has jumped from 195 to 236 pounds over the same period.
